Make up Tour HUGO Class

Out of the many trips my class and I took this semester, I feel that this last one was one of the better ones for me. I guess it is the fact that I gained, revalued a moral value from this experience. A trip to Lee College art gallery center, of all places, is where such event in my life has occurred. Who would of known a cool memory was going to happen right among campus ? I sure didn't think so and that's what makes it so cool. Walking deep into the museum I ran into some religious paintings of Jesus Christ. It is not only an honorable painting, but it was great work. Made me realize and appreciate the talents and blessings that are giving to us as people. People should exploit their talents everyday to benefit others, that is what God wants right ?

Make up Tour HUGO Class

I was really interesting about those pictures, and the colors of those pictures that reminded me my country's flag. those colors it means something bigger for us, and there are three colors which symbolize the pride of my country Mali, such as Yellow, Red, and Green colors those colors have a meaning. There had several bad events in couple few years ago in my country, and the issues was cause of the religion, and there had the separation between the Muslim, and the Christian. In Mali the most of people are the Muslim, and 80 percent of the families are the Muslim and there are not a lot of Christians in my Mali. At that time the Muslim was persecuting the Christians and the country was divided in the two parts, there had not the reconciliation during several years, people were killing each other. The president who was leading my country, he has done his best to bring everyone in the same page, and there had the reconciliation between us. Our president has choose three colors which symbolize the dignity and pride of my country. Green color it means "One people, Yellow color it means One goal, and Red color it means One faith". when I saw those colors that inspired me a lot and we got the peace between us cause those colors.

Make up Tour Hugo Class

We came to the end of the semester and on this to the end of the Hugo class. I am really happy of the fact that the class gave me an innovative, cultural and new artistic approach. Before these autistics experiences I always though that art was something abstract and separate from the reality and the society life. I learned that art his something that nobody can really define with precision. Art in an expression of freedom, anyone is an artist in self because everybody have that power to produce an expression of feelings. I hope art was taken in that prospective in Cameroon. Maybe artist should learn that art something that the government the culture and even people cannot regulate. Art is here to remind people that the only think that society would never be able to take from them is freedom "let the art be art and the freedom of think our painting? It was a great learning to be in Hugo class

I have never been to a museum before, back home in Africa. We have the  out there, but I never been interesting to go to the museum  to visit all kind of Arts. It was excited moment for me to see all kind of Arts down there, and I was inspired with a lot of things that I saw down there. what it has inspired me a lot, it was the picture of people who have sacrifice their life to bring the freedom in this country. I realized that there had some people have worked so hard to give us what we have today such as freedom and the opportunities that we have.

In my country  music is the Art that people celebrate. Our Art is the music because music it symbolize a lot of things for us. By the music we can find peace among us, when there's no peace and by music we can bring people together to find the reconciliation in country. Our art it is also the dance. By the dance you can understand the message through the dance. We have all kind of dances, if you want to understand the art you must watch the traditional dance. It is easy to understand Art through the dance. The way they dress and the way they dance.

People express their feeling through the music in the different ways. Some people says that music bring to them happiness, often they say when they are upset of something or when they lose someone in the family and when they listen music they can't be worry and upset. The music has more impact in my country. for some people music is a motivation for them to accomplish so many things in their life.
We have all kind of diversity of music. Traditional music is describing as our Art there is modern music and etc. We have bunch of tradition music because there a lot tribe out there each tribe has his arts. People express their feelings through the visual diversity of Art by the emotion some people when they look at art they said that the Art show them the story of their tribe or where they come from. James Turrell, the Artist said "if you think all descriptions all experience he saw in road of Epiphany describing in terms of light some idea or light feel avoid and lightning all those things have to do with vocabulary of light". He said "in beginning was light and light is food that's physical part of it diet we have strong emotion relationship to the light as well it really doesn't have this amazing affect on us". He said again "we have some relationship with light when we are looking to fire. The James tunnel interested me it was amazing to be in that tunnel there had a lot of colors was changed anytime and the light was around of the tunnel I saw myself through that light, it was so amazing.

Having not seen much art in my life little did i know almost anything put in front of me could be art. On this trip I noticed this art as time consumming. I couldn't say i prefered this type of art, but some people in HUGO seemed to take some intrest in it. The most important part of this art I did pay attention to was the brig

Do we really know the importance of arts?

A famous artist says one day that " arts is a heritage receive from generation to generation and an expression of life". At first I did not understand what he meant but following our trip I think it start seem a little bit clear to me. I start looking at everything in a different perspective. It is interesting to me the way you can look at an artwork and have different thinking about it. A different look a different world, different view different understanding that's how arts it resume in my country. It just mean that the beauty of the artist artwork is define by the cultural understanding of his art. It is funny how here the artist can produce his arts not base on a cultural understanding but only with the beauty of his imagination. The artist interpret is vision of the world
and want to show us what his eyes see and define beauty. it the reason maybe today I feel  like photography it is not only the action of taking picture but a little more than that. photography it is understanding what you see and observe. during all those different trips I understood that life has a meaning and it is beautiful. I am in admiration of these artists and how they able to resort the details of their work. it seems to me unreal to take so much time to profile all the details. At first I did not think that this class would be that much interesting but I am happy to see how this class help me to understand more arts. I travel around the globe and saw different arts but one thing I think they all have in common was show us that life is beauty and freedom. It is a total freedom of imagination and creation of what we are. they have different message unfortunately, for example in Africa artwork deliver a message of solidarity and social help. Here it seem to me that the principal message that is deliver by arts is freedom " we are all free to think"

It is said that a picture can say more than a thousand words and some say they tell stories, but art makes me think. Experiencing new variety of art, there is a new look at how people are unique in their own. Everyone perceives life in his or her own way. Like I, growing up where I live there were graffiti on the streets as the only symbol of artistic talent my culture had. Nothing showcased or viewed as art, but an act of defacing property. To see art appreciated shows me there is a lot out in the world to learn, experience and choose from. Life is about opportunities, be yourself and take them head on.

I look at the Scarface portrait and immediately want to take a picture in front of it. Remembering the days I spent watching the movie triggered pleasant memories for me. I always watched the film with my family or friends, since to us it is a classic. Therefore i wanted to take the picture not alone but by my teammates side symbolizing my extended family out here in Texas. Next we have an abstract art piece of a robust women decorated in pink and black dots. Amusing to my teammates and I, we figured why not express and be proud of our man hood. Darian Banks grips

the one of her boosoms showing possesion, Bertrand stands firmly showing confidence and Dennis and I stand as witness to the connection between man and women. Even though it just a statue, my mind was running on all cylinders.

This trip was awesome while it was shocking. it was not easy to see these women with breast Cancer I was thinking if it was somebody in my family was in that situation I would feel so bad. But these women they are so stronger to handle this sickness. That was a great experience to me I will share this experience with my family and with my friends.

Art and cultural expression

Our next two trip to the Houston streets art was more fun than I expected. The more I examined the graffiti, the more I was surprised by the intention of the artist. I could almost feel what they must have felt as they created. I was interested in where their choice of colors and design elements came from? how do they know that those color and design elements can create art? is such knowledge inborn? every time, I see a graffiti piece I think about these questions.

I ask myself," how does one define art?" is art the fruit of our imagination or the expression of our feelings?. Nobody can objectively answer to these questions. I come from Cameroon in Africa and yet I see such type of graffiti and their meaning. I quickly figure out that here that graffiti art has liberty meaning. the artist use the public place to express that he free to think and create. arts does not follow any regulations the artist have a free choice. they can freely choose the color and elements of design. in Cameroon the graffiti artists have to certain rules. for example excessive  use

of the red color in graffiti artwork  is prohibited. graffiti artwork have to express cultural heritage

first trip

During these two exciting trips in Houston, I experienced art in a new perspective that I never thought I once would. Growing up I had no chance of experiencing events like this so I soaked in the whole trip as if I never seen amazing art before. Everything seemed so natural and apart of the area. The art projects matched the vibe of the environment allowing my group and I get a full effect of the purpose behind what we saw. Anxiety taking over in suspense of what we were to see next and anxiety still fills my group for the next trip this humanities class embarks on so we can say we been somewhere. Feeling like we making progress in life, we all start from somewhere, but it matters where you are going.

Art is Art no Matter what

Houston art street graffiti
During to our first trip I was so impressed by the beauty of the choice of colors and draw. I was able to read the artist emotion and feeling through the draw on the wall. It seems really crazy to me how they came up with those ideas of drawing. I am not really a fan of this type of arts but it was so crazy to me how the graffiti capture my attention. It was a really good learning experience for me to understanding the human imagination and creation. I do not really understand the message of the graffiti but for sure I could feel the emotion of the artist through his artworks.
the second trip was more about arts architectural.

when I admire all this tall building and statue I could only ask myself how did they come up with those ideas? how did they make that? during that trip I experience a high level view of Houston and could feel the nature art. all those buildings together set a splendid view of the city. I come from a city who does not have that many tall building and architecture so for me it was like being in another universe. some people see that as " deja vu" but for me it seem spectacular how human defy the rule of the nature. In my home country we do not have such gigantic architecture so I guess we can associate cultural and art1? can we use art to express cultural characteristic. I want to know if the people or artist that create have conscience of the impact they have on the society. Architecture artwork reminds us that the human imagination is bigger as hundred times that we think. Like a famous painting artist said one day " human in self is nature is already an artwork"
